maxtrax mount

we wanted to be able to carry our maxtrax in a place that would be easily accessible if we were stuck and needed them. originally, during the first part of our trip, we strapped them to the roof. this was a bit cumbersome, and we decided to make our own mounts to have them at arms reach, and still safely locked to the side of the van.

so we popped off the roof box, and did some measurements of the spacing of our rack bars. we scored big time, as the rails were less than 1cm off from being the perfect length to affix the maxtrax — this could have been a deal breaker since the solar panels and all kinds of other gear was mounted up there. worst case we would have had to make some extra bends. we couldn’t find the exact length angle we needed, so we bought a straight piece and and angle piece and just screwed them toghether and drilled new holes to get everything to line up properly. we also got a maxtrax mounting pin set to hold the boards to the brackets we built.

throw a small lock through one of the pin holes, and you’re done.
